Are you ready for the e-invoicing requirement starting in 2025?
The digitalization of the business world is progressing - and with it the legal requirements. From January 1, 2025, the electronic invoice will become mandatory in the B2B sector. Companies in Germany must then be able to receive e-invoices in ZUGFeRD format (profile EN16931). But that is only the beginning. We have compiled the most important information for you - compact and easy to understand.
What does the new regulation mean for you?
The requirements for e-invoices are becoming stricter. In addition to receipt, these must also be archived in an audit-proof manner for 10 years in the original format. It is not sufficient to store only a copy of the invoice. You must ensure that each invoice remains linked to the associated business transaction. It is also important:
- Paper printouts or image-based formats such as .jpeg or .docx are not sufficient.
- A PDF invoice sent by email will no longer count as a real e-invoice from 2025 onwards.
- Outlook and similar tools are not permissible archiving systems.
- If you receive an e-invoice, you must also accept it.
When does what become mandatory?
The introduction of the e-invoice takes place gradually:
- From 2027: Companies with annual sales exceeding 800,000 euros must issue e-invoices.
- Starting from 2028The e-invoice will become mandatory for all domestic B2B sales.

Important: An update to the latest version of winweb-food is absolutely necessary for this, as this extension cannot be provided as a patch.

What remains subject to a charge?
In addition to ZUGFeRD, we continue to offer support for XRechnung and EDI-Invoice. However, these formats remain subject to a fee.
